Evaluation

This is my final image, it isn't the image that I wanted but because of a incident that I had I have picked this one. I like this image because it tells a story to me as the photographer. It gives me the impression that its a girl who doesn't want to grow up but is being made to thats why she's holding the teddy so close to her. I think the background contrasts very well with the clothes, her hair and the teddy she is holding. I do like the color of the background i have used. A weakness with this photo is that i don't think that the story is very clear in it and I don't think it made it very obvious. A strength in this photo is definitely the colors I have used they're very strong together and brings the photo together. Another weakness is that I would of liked to be closer to her face because I think it would of given a better effect. Another strength is the lighting because its even on the photo and on the model.

Shoot 2

I did shoot two at UCLAN and I improved a lot from the first week, I took it from above and added loads of teddies and made her wear a hat. The photos where a lot less playful as she wasn't pulling serious faces she was pulling funny faces. But unfortunately when I got home the memory stick with all of my photographs from this shoot was eaten by my dog so I don't have a second shoot with my best photos on. For the shoot I used the same yellow back ground a ladder to go up and take the photo and I put the teddies around her. Because I no longer have any photos for this shoot I am going to use a different camera with a different lens to make up that I don't have a second shoot. These are making up with the images i have lost but these show the comparison from it being in a professional studio and a not so good studio.

I really like these photos, they relate to nan goldin's work with transvestites. I think it is really interesting it shows the differences in what different people are like. I think the shadows in some of the pictures ruin it but apart from that I really like them. I didn't want the light to be really bright so I only used one soft box.

This is my favorite photo of them all because it really shows the obvious girl/boy features. The model looks deep in thought and isn't a usual model figure.

Research

Larry Clark
I really like Larry clarks work they're not the standard portrait where the model is looking at the camera, But when they are looking at the camera it isn't a normal face they're like pulling faces or half way through talking or something like that. He uses black and white in all of his photos i do really like this because it keeps the dull theme going throughout the photos showing that they're less fortunate. Even on the photos where they look like they're having fun the images still look pretty grey and gloomy, so i think there is more behind some of these images then what you can see. You can tell that there is a story behind each image and they make you think. For example the picture below on the left looks like he's in shock of seeing someone or something happening. The picture on the right below looks like he's waiting or thinking about things. These pictures don't look like the models where made to pose it looks like they have been caught in the moment.

Larry Clark was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1943. While a teenager Clark developed his photography skills working as an assistant to his mother, a baby photographer. He then spent two years at a commercial photography school. Larry Clark achieved both fame and notoriety with the publication of his first book Tulsa in 1971. Drug use, sex and violence are the main themes in his work, but the images are often beautifully composed and his subjects are sympathetically presented. He has shown us a new style of photography that was personal, estrange and completely separated from any social agenda.

Irving Penn
I really like her images i like the way she has used people not with flawless skin or the most perfect looking people she has used different people that you wouldn't expect people to take photos of. This shows off their character. This photographer also uses black and white i think in some ways its to show some of the features to look better and has kept the theme going throughout there work. I like the way in her photos she gets really close to the models face or does full length shots. I think these images make you feel a bit uncomfortable because they're not natural but they're not very poesy either. With these photos i can't relate to a story with them they just confuse me.

Irving Penn was born June 16 1917 in Plainfield U.S. and died October 7 2009New York. American photographer is known for his advanced fashion images and sharp portraits. He began photographing his own ideas for covers and soon accepted himself as a fashion photographer. He used his wife for a lot of his images. Penn also became an influential portraitist. He photographed a large number of celebrities, engaging each subject to sit for hours and to reveal his or her personality to the camera.

Viviane Sassen
I really like this work. Its like she's hiding peoples identity it makes you think what she's trying to hide. She could be hiding the identity of the people or the fact they're a bit different or that they're not the prettiest of people. i love the composition of the photos the model/models are usually in the middle of the photos and the shadows are always covering their whole face or most of it. I like that they're in color I think this is to show and exploits them for having a different skin color. I love the way she has used the harsh light and has obviously crested the shadows by putting things in front of it.

She was Born in 1972 in Amsterdam, she still lives and works in Amsterdam now. She is a famous photographer who works in both the fashion and fine art. She is known for her use of weird shapes, often abstractions of bodies.

  • Make sure all the lights are turned off
  • Make sure the wires aren't loose because that would be a tripping hazard
  • Never leave the studio unattended
  • The flashlights become incredibly hot and could cause severe burns. They should never be handled.
  • The lights get very hot so be careful whilst handling them

Shoot 1

I like these images but I realised throughout the day different people where doing full length images like these. I want my images to be different to other peoples so next week I'm going to do the same type of thing, but I'm going to take them from above today also I am going to use loads of teddies and make her be really happy and smiley. Not as grumpy as I wanted her to be. I do really like the photos I think they look really good, I like the lighting I have used, the two soft boxes made it all even and not just her standing out I wanted them to look quite equal. I think the photos are a little bit to model like I wanted them more casual. I really like the colors I have used everything is pretty plain and I like it like that. But I also want it to look fun. I love the color of the background and I'm definitely going to use this again next time.
